The West Coast

In case you’re new to my blog – I was born and raised in Long Beach, California. I just got back from a trip visiting my family for about 2 weeks, and I have to say it was such an amazing trip. I’ll also say that saying goodbye to head back to Italy this time was pretty hard, and I know a big part of that is because of how challenging this pandemic has been without my family being close by. Being able to see everyone again, spend quality time with the people I love, and see some of my friends as well was just something that I really needed, and I do wish I could do it more often.

During previous trips to California I always felt a bit disconnected, as I’ve always definitely felt a good amount of reverse-culture shock coming from Italy. It was always nice to see people, spend time with them, and enjoy all the great things that California has to offer, but this time I honestly just appreciated everything so much more and felt like I really belonged again. I spent a lot of time in the water down at our beach house in Newport, visited Catalina Island for a few days just like I used to when I was growing up, and even got up to Portland to surprise my Sister who’s been living there now for the past few years.

Living abroad has definitely allowed me to grow into the man I am today, and working as a Travel Photographer has truly been an amazing experience. I’m just so happy to say that I now also equally appreciate and feel connected to where I’m from again which I feel was a process that took nearly a decade for me to work through and rediscover.

Before taking off for my trip back to California I knew that I wanted to make a short film about my trip. I knew I was going to be taking some underwater shots, and probably some sort of action sport was going to be involved as well so I purchased the DJI OSMO ACTION and an INSTA 360. For good measure (knowing me, the over-packer when it comes to gear) I also brought:

Canon 5D MKIV (X2)

Sigma 70-200 f2.8

Sigma 24-80 f2.8 art

Canon 50mm 1.2L

DJI RS2 PRO

I also brought a snorkel and a mask in case anyone is wondering….lol… Anyways, what I’m saying is that I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to create something that really meant something to me. Please enjoy my short film The West Coast – I hope you love it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
